VOLUNTEERS

WIRRAL COMMUNITY NARROWBOAT TRUST was founded in 1984 and is a registered charity run entirely by volunteers. The Trust operates two purpose-built canal boats providing a choice of day trips and residential breaks from spring to autumn each year  from various departure points in Cheshire. Our trips have proved very popular and many of our clients, mostly senior citizens, youth groups and disabled persons, return, year after year, to enjoy the peaceful tranquillity of the canals, the countryside and the wildlife.

The narrowboats are operated by an experienced. trained and certificated crew. All members have C.R.B. accreditation.

Each boat has a wheelchair ramp and lift,  a flush toilet,  central heating, full cooking facilities incl. refrigerator, kitchen utensils, tea towels, plates, cutlery and crockery. The new residential boat 'POT of GOLD' also has a shower. Life jackets are available for each passenger and a First Aid box is carried on board.  There is also a radio / CD player ifitted.

A typical full-day return trip lasts from 6 to 7 hours but we also offer extended day returns of 7 to 8 hours or more and half-day returns lasting around 5 hour seach allowing a lunch stop of 1 hour. Residential breaks are for a maximum of 10 days. We have a choice of trips depending on the position of the boat but may cover part of the Shropshire union, Trent & Mersey, Bridgewater and Llangollen canals.

Please note that the maximum number and type of wheelchairs carried on any trip depends on their size & weight and the particular boat chosen. More detailed information can be provided on request.

A new 'DAY' boat has been ordered which is hoped will be delivered at the beginning of the next sailing season.
